Signature Requirements for Public Office

The Mayor and Council Seats in Ward 1, Ward 2, & Ward 3 will be decided in the November 6th General Election.  In order to be placed on the ballot Nominating Petitions will need to be filed by April 24th at 4:00 PM with the City Clerk's Office.

Nominating Petition Signature Requirement: (Partisan - The candidate will appear on the August Primary Ballot with party affiliation) City Charter 3.06
  • Mayor - Not less than 125 signatures; no more than 200
  • Council Member - Not less than 25; no more than 50
Qualifying Petition Signature Requirement: (Non-Partisan - The Candidate will only appear on the November General Election Ballot without party affiliation) MCL 168.544f
  • Mayor - Not less than 60 signatures; no more than 150
  • Council Member - Not less than 9; no more than 30
The filing deadline for Qualifying Petitions is July 19th at 4:00 p.m.
