Huron River Drive Roadwork
We're currently in the process of Reconstruction of Huron River Drive between Cornell and LeForge! As part of this reconstruction, we plan to add sidewalks to the north side, upgrade crosswalks at Cornell, Oakwood, and LeForge, and convert a travel lane to a center turn lane, resulting in safer travels for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
This project will affect traffic and those using the sidewalk along North Huron River Drive from Cornell to LeForge. A substantial part of the project will occur over 2023, pausing for the winter months and targeting completion in the Spring of 2024.
Huron River Drive (LeForge to Cornell) construction is ongoing' approximately two weeks behind schedule. Two-way traffic has been restored; the sidewalk is open for pedestrians.
Fine grading is complete on the North side of the Huron River Drive. The contractor will soon start paving the same portion of the road. Also, pouring the other half of the three commercial driveways and remaining sidewalks/ramps on the north side. The sidewalk on HRD between Oakwood and Mayhew is temporarily closed to pedestrian traffic with an Eastern Michigan University contractor. During this period, please walk along Mayhew sidewalk till the project concludes. At this time, vehicle traffic can only travel eastbound with hopes of two-way traffic in September.
The eastbound traffic will soon shift from the north section of the road to the newly-resurfaced south side! Sidewalks on the south side are now open for pedestrian traffic with minimal intermittent closures as work progresses. Crews will soon be starting work in the northern half of the right-of-way, starting removals in preparation for paving, storm sewer work, and sidewalk installation. Vehicle traffic is still detoured; westbound traffic is advised to use Washtenaw.
Traffic Switch is planned for the week of July 17th. By this time the area will be repaved. Please visit a photo update of the area.
