WINTER STORM WARNING
The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING in effect from 6 pm this evening to 12 pm on Tuesday. It is anticipated that snow will intensify this evening on or after 6 pm. Snow will become heavy at times tonight with an additional 6 to 9 inches expected before diminishing Tuesday morning. Travel could be difficult and the hazardous conditions could impact the evening and Tuesday morning commute. If you must travel, it is recommended that you keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Please slow down and use caution while traveling.
The City of Ypsilanti Department of Public Services will begin snow removal when road conditions warrant them. We ask that you please park in your driveway or an off-street parking area, if it is available, to help our crews clear the full width of the road. This is important to ensure that the water properly drains off the road when the snow and ice melts. We anticipate that our crews will have snow cleared from streets and city-maintained sidewalks within 24 hours after the end of the snow event.
In addition to these efforts the City has a snow removal ordinance which requires property owners to clear adjacent sidewalks within 24 hours of the first accumulation of snow. We are asking that all property owners help keep the City safe for winter walking by complying with the ordinance. Please take this small step to help ensure your block is safe and accessible to all.
The Washtenaw County Office of Community and Economic Development, the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County (SAWC), and other organizations have cooperated to provide emergency shelter for homeless individuals during the winter months. We want to thank everyone for doing your part to help keep City residents and visitors safe during this winter weather event and remind everyone to please slow down and use caution when traveling during winter weather. Have a safe evening!
