One of the guiding values of the Master Plan is “Ypsilanti is sustainable.” To help make Ypsilanti more sustainable, the drafted Master Plan Update recommends “eliminating new instances of soil contamination and responsibly deal with the legacy of existing polluted sites” as a priority goal. To carry out this goal, the City might consider overlay zoning or building regulations in certain areas with sensitive soils or areas near waterways, among a number of policy recommendations.
